Rio Tinto is proud to be an important sponsor of the finals of the 52nd Quebec Games, 2017 winter edition. The group has contributed $300,000 to support this major event, which will take place from 24 February to 4 March in Alma, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. In addition to financial support, Rio Tinto is providing the aluminium medals that will be awarded to 3,200 athletes.

"The Quebec Games bring the entire regional community together. We are very proud to be involved, and I am delighted with the energy and determination showed by the organisers and citizens since the city of Alma was nominated. Rio Tinto supports healthy lifestyle choices, which are incredibly positive for youth development. This partnership is our way of investing in our future," said Guy Gaudreault, general manager, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean Smelter, Rio Tinto, on the margins of the opening ceremony of the 2017 Quebec Winter Games.

Made entirely in the region, the medals represent an important symbol of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean: aluminium. "This regional product highlights the know-how and expertise of our employees and partners who help us make aluminium with the lowest carbon footprint in the world," added Mr. Gaudreault.
