Yarwun Refinery recruiting for trainees and experienced operators

14 June 2018

Rio Tinto Yarwun Refinery is opening the gates for both trainees and experienced operators in a recruitment campaign aimed at Gladstone locals.

Several entry-level process technician roles are available through a structured training programme with a Certificate III in Process Plant Operations awarded to trainees at the successful completion of the 18-month programme.

Rio Tinto Yarwun General Manager Mike Dunstan said "We encourage people from all walks of life to apply. In addition to experienced operators, we’re looking for women and men after a career change.

"Our process technicians include former chefs, hairdressers, business owners and landscapers. We value diversity and know that different experiences and skill sets can only enhance Yarwun refinery.

"Employing locals is our number one priority in this recruitment campaign. We want to attract the best candidates from Gladstone."

The training programme will teach people how to monitor, operate and maintain the plant in line with ongoing safety, quality, production, and cost objectives. Positions are also available for experienced operators who can bring their existing knowledge and skills with them to Yarwun.

To succeed in this role applicants will need to show experience working in a team environment, a willingness to learn and to solve problems. Applicants will need a minimum of Year 10 or equivalent secondary education to apply.

Located 10km north-west of Gladstone in central Queensland, the Yarwun refinery is wholly-owned and operated by Rio Tinto.
