Rio Tinto Gove Operations has been recognised at the 2018 Chief Minister’s Northern Territory Export and Industry Awards for its achievements as a world-class producer of bauxite to the global aluminium industry.

At the awards ceremony attended by Chief Minister Hon Michael Gunner MLA in Darwin last night, Rio Tinto was named winner of the Minerals, Energy and Related Services category.

Recent production increases have been realised through the implementation of a renewed programme of works to transform the business focusing on disciplined capital spend and low cost delivery.

Rio Tinto Aluminium Pacific Operations managing director Bruce Cox said "In a competitive international market, it is terrific that Gove has been recognised as a market leader in bauxite export.

"The ability of the Gove team to continuously deliver productivity improvements has resulted in record levels of bauxite being exported to China. Congratulations to Linda and her team on this great achievement."

In May this year, Rio Tinto achieved another milestone as the primary customer and exporter of the first bauxite from the nearby Gulkula Mine. Gulkula is Australia’s first 100 per cent Indigenous-owned bauxite mine, operated by the Gumatj Traditional Owners of the area. Representing innovation and collaboration, the milestone represented a new era of mining in the Northern Territory.

Rio Tinto Gove Operations has been supplying bauxite to the global aluminium industry for over 40 years.
