The Commercial group, headquartered in Singapore and linked to Rio Tinto’s offices in Japan, China and beyond, is focused on delivering Rio Tinto’s mine to market strategy, and working hand-in-hand with the Products Groups to grow value across customer and supplier chains.
Commercial includes the global Sales & Marketing, Procurement, and Marine & Logistics organisations, supported by the Commercial Treasury, HR, and Finance - including Market Analysis - functions, among others.
Sales & Marketing
Rio Tinto sells and markets high-quality products worldwide. The minerals and metals we supply - mostly to industrial companies that process them further - are the building blocks of value-added goods. Rio Tinto’s diverse portfolio allows us to respond throughout countries’ economic development cycles, including in infrastructure, transport, machinery, energy and consumer goods, making modern life work.
Rio Tinto’s marketing teams work with the operations to align resource management with market needs and to make sure Rio Tinto improves products and services in a way that maximises value to customers.
Marine & Logistics
The objective of the Marine & Logistics is to ensure safe and sustainable global shipping services, and enhance supply chain capabilities. By volume, Rio Tinto is the largest dry bulk shipping business in the world, operating 17 vessels of its own and contracting a fleet of around 200 vessels at any given time.
