Our business
We operate in 35 countries where our 60,000 employees are working to find better ways to provide the materials the world needs
Our purpose in action
Continuous improvement and innovation are part of our DNA
Innovation
The need for innovation is greater than ever
We supply the metals and minerals used to help the world grow and decarbonise
Iron Ore
The primary raw material used to make steel, which is strong, long-lasting and cost-efficient
Lithium
The lightest of all metals, it is a key element needed for low-carbon technologies
Copper
Tough but malleable, corrosion-resistant and recyclable, and an excellent conductor of heat and transmitter of electricity
Bringing to market materials critical to urbanisation and the transition to a low-carbon economy
Oyu Tolgoi
One of the most modern, safe and sustainable operations in the world
Rincon Project
A long-life, low-cost and low-carbon lithium source
Simandou Project
The world’s largest untapped high-grade iron ore deposit
Providing materials the world needs in a responsible way

We back exceptional founders and teams in areas where we can help accelerate their development pathway by leveraging our technical and commercial experts. We support start-ups through 2 dedicated platforms: our Accelerator Program and our Ventures Fund.
We’re currently backing start-ups across 5 themes from pre-seed to Series B stages:
Pre-seed and seed
Supports early founders by combining our commercial and technical experience with a methodical 4-month program.
We’ve partnered with Founders Factory in a Mining Tech Accelerator. We run 2 cohorts of 6 start-ups per annum.
Applications for the accelerator program are open.
Series A and B
Highly tailored support for founders approaching commercialisation, including for start-ups graduating from our accelerator program.
We routinely invest and work together with investors and governments across North America, Europe and Australia to scale together.
Electra makes clean iron through a low-carbon process that uses chemistry and renewable energy to transform iron ore into 99% pure iron.
Terra AI partners with miners to accelerate exploration using patented AI that models the subsurface, quantifies uncertainty, and optimises drill targeting.
Endolith uses microbes, earth's oldest miners, to increase recovery rates in copper and lithium while minimising environmental impact.
ElectraLith’s cutting-edge Direct Lithium Extraction and Refining (DLE-R) process produces battery-grade lithium hydroxide or carbonate in a revolutionary single, scalable and modular step that requires no water or chemicals and can run entirely on renewable energy.
Highview Power is a leading innovator in clean, long duration energy storage, pioneering Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) technology. Its modular, location-flexible solutions store energy, stabilise grids and are playing a key role in the global shift to decarbonised energy.
Lumo Analytics provides a LIBS-based analytical solution for rapid elemental and mineral analysis of drill cores, hand samples, and unconsolidated samples, delivering instant, reliable data to support core logging, mineral identification, and other analytical needs across operating mine sites and exploration projects.
Snowfox Discovery is a natural hydrogen exploration company, seeking to safely explore for, discover and monetise economic volumes of natural hydrogen.
Rainstick mimics lightning to electrically accelerate seeds for food crops and native restoration.
Aymium’s renewable and carbon negative biocarbon can immediately replace fossil coal and coke in steel and other metals production, requiring no capital modifications for immediate use.
