Rio Tinto has been a proud community partner in British Columbia since 1954 and remains committed to strong relationships with the communities in which we operate.
Through our Donations and Sponsorship Program, we contribute to community-building initiatives that support health, education, youth and the environment. The program’s aim is to support our operating communities by helping to meet the needs of the present while safeguarding a legacy for future generations.
In the past 5 years we have contributed more than $5 million to fund important community initiatives throughout BC. We consider these donations money well spent, because the well-being of our communities is also a good thing for us.
“Rio Tinto’s donation to the Kitimat Dynamic Gymnastics club has allowed us to upgrade some much needed equipment that is safer to use, and will help us develop a stronger competitive advantage.”
- Angela Pitzell, coach
One of our key partnerships developed over the past few years is with the Breakfast Club of Canada to support breakfast programs for schools in the Kitimat-Watershed region of British Columbia. Based on the success of the program, the partnership was renewed in 2014.
Today, with Rio Tinto’s dedicated support, the Breakfast Club of Canada operates 12 breakfast programs feeding nearly 800 students every school morning in our operating communities.
If you have a proposal for us that fits into one or more of these categories, we encourage you to review the program guidelines and learn how to submit an application.
