Pour une dixième année consécutive en tant que partenaire principal, Rio Tinto est heureux de soutenir l’édition 2018 du Grand défi Pierre Lavoie.
Du 14 au 18 juin inclusivement, plus de 1000 cyclistes de partout au Québec sillonneront les quelque 1000 kilomètres qui les séparent du quai d’escale de l’arrondissement La Baie, Saguenay, à l’arrivée au stade olympique de Montréal.
En plus de sa participation financière, Rio Tinto fournit les médailles en aluminium entièrement fabriquées au Québec qui sont remises à tous les cyclistes à leur arrivée.
Gervais Jacques, directeur exécutif, Opérations Atlantique, Rio Tinto Aluminium déclare : « Depuis 2008, Rio Tinto et Le Grand défi Pierre Lavoie tracent la voie pour des milliers de Québécois vers un mode de vie plus sain et actif. Nous sommes fiers de franchir ce jalon important avec Pierre Lavoie, un réel pionnier en matière de santé. » Celui-ci poursuit : « Nous tenons à souligner l’engagement de tous les gens impliqués de près ou de loin dans l’organisation de cet événement rassembleur incluant tous les bénévoles. Je souhaite bonne route à tous les participants, particulièrement aux six équipes représentant Rio Tinto qui relèveront ce défi sportif d’envergure. »
Depuis la création du Grand défi, grâce aux donateurs, aux partenaires et aux cyclistes, près de 18 millions de dollars ont été remis dans la communauté, soutenant ainsi plus de 2900 projets favorisant l’adoption de saines habitudes de vie dans environ 1250 écoles du Québec. De plus, la Fondation du Grand défi Pierre Lavoie a permis de soutenir 143 projets de recherche et fait avancer le niveau des connaissances pour plus de 80 maladies rares.
