Rio Tinto supports family activities at 40th anniversary Festival International de Jazz de Montréal

04 June 2019

As Co-Presenter of the 40th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Rio Tinto is proud to again make possible programs and activities for both the young and the young at heart.

From June 27 to July 6, music lovers are invited to bring the whole family and discover the rhythms at the world's largest jazz gathering.

Rio Tinto general manager of Communications and Communities Geneviève Latour said "Congratulations to the Montreal Jazz Festival on reaching a wonderful milestone with its 40th birthday! It's important for us that this world-class event can be enjoyed by all; our support helps to make more than two-thirds of the concerts accessible to the public for free. The Festival shines a spotlight on the dynamic city of Montreal, where our office is a global hub supporting our business, not just here in Canada, but around the world."

Fun for the entire family

Rio Tinto has been a proud partner to this major cultural event since 2006.

As part of the family activities offered at this year's edition, we're pleased to again support festival favourites the Rio Tinto Musical Park, featuring a wide array of interactive activities conceived around the theme of "music", and the Rio Tinto The Little School of Jazz, where children of all ages enter the world of music with famed festival mascot Ste-Cat.

Also back by popular demand is the Rio Tinto Family Zone with its free exploration area, to stimulate the imagination and creativity of young festival-goers, and the much-loved face painting tent. And of course, student bands and emerging talent will be featured on the Rio Tinto outdoor stage.

Finally, the Festival will be offering free family services in partnership with Rio Tinto, including child ID bracelets, stroller rentals, noise cancelling headphones, sunscreen and private family restrooms.

Reaching out to communities

Rio Tinto is pleased to support the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal in celebrating its 40th birthday with the creation of new festival centres called "Hubs". In 2019, the Festival’s inaugural "Hub" will be located in Montreal's southwestern borough of Verdun, which will include the Rio Tinto Family Zone with the same services and activities offered at the Quartier des spectacles.

In addition, in order to mark the Festival’s presence in the borough, we will be leaving the legacy of a Rio Tinto Musical Park to the community of Verdun.

By reaching out to more communities and inviting Montrealers and tourists to visit less-familiar areas of the city, the "Hubs" will promote contact between citizens and generate new spin-offs for the boroughs, in a spirit of inclusion and diversity.
