The company's vision is of a "town and country" living experience based on distinct neighbourhoods, each of which will have centres within walking distance of all homes. The neighbourhood centres will provide employment, shopping and entertainment opportunities. All forms of travel will be encouraged, including walking, cycling, public transport and cars. Open spaces criss-crossed by trails will be planted with "water-wise" native plants that will require little or no irrigation, with a goal of reducing water consumption to less that 50 per cent of that used in other Utah urban areas. In recognition of these community development goals, the Sunrise Project recently won the Governor's Quality Growth Award for Grand Achievement in Design and Planning.
Construction of the Sunrise Project, which is modelled consciously on the ethos of Copperton, is likely to begin in 2003. The Sunrise Project will eventually continue as a series of planned communities that will extend along the entire eastern side of the Oquirrh Mountains.
