Training, development and incentives

All businesses and Group functions continue working on leadership and people development, involvement of people and incentives for individual and team performance. Examples of learning and development programmes in the workplace include:

  • Many businesses run programmes on improving personal communication, especially in teams, and enhancing employee involvement in the wider business.
  • Training on how employees can influence value creation has been launched at Kennecott Utah Copper and Rio Tinto Coal Australia.
  • Customised, professional development programmes for practitioners are run by Group functions such as Marketing and Human Resources.
  • Global transformation teams such as Improving performance together run training to enhance the employee engagement skills of all of their project teams.
  • Individual incentive programmes for businesses to help improve safety, productivity and performance, are run by several businesses.

In 2006 Rio Tinto will undertake a comprehensive review of all its training activities to ensure we continue to give learning and development opportunities to our employees which are business relevant and personally rewarding.
