Rio Tinto Iron & Titanium (RTIT) comprises the wholly owned Quebec Iron & Titanium (QIT) in Quebec, Canada and the 50 per cent interest in Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. QIT Madagascar Minerals is also currently preparing for titanium dioxide production in Madagascar.QIT produces titanium dioxide as its main product for sale as a raw material to titanium pigment producers. Two trademarks are produced at QIT: SORELSLAG™ and UGS™.
Titanium pigment is used to produce a superior-quality white finish at a lower cost. It serves as a colouring or opacity agent in paints, plastics, dyes, paper, rubber and other materials. It is by far the most commonly used white pigment in the world.
