QIT-Fer et Titane mine titanium dioxide in Lac Tio, near Havre-Saint-Pierre and Sorel-Tracy in Quebec, Canada, where high-quality titanium dioxide, along with iron, is extracted from the ore. Titanium dioxide produced here is sold as a raw material to titanium pigment producers. Rio Tinto also has interests in Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) which operates mining facilities in South Africa and QIT Madagascar Minerals, with a titanium dioxide bearing limenite mine in Fort-Dauphin, Madagascar.
