REACH - The new EU chemicals legislation
Rio Tinto will be complying in full where product registration is required under REACH. We are currently evaluating all of our products to enable us to comply with the current pre-registration period that runs until 1 December. Note that minerals, ores and concentrates are exempt from registration but all chemically modified products will need to be registered.
Rio Tinto is closely involved with a number of product consortia (companies with similar products either imported or manufactured in the EU), so that the data requirements are being met on a product basis rather than company by company to avoid duplication and to enable us to make cost effective and consistent product registrations under REACH.
