In 1992, a team of Dampier Salt technicians began working on a process to recover gypsum from the surface of Lake MacLeod in the north west of Western Australia.Their research revealed that Lake McLeod has an estimated resource of around 3 billion tonnes of gypsum. Following this successful research, Dampier Salt committed to the development of this natural gypsum deposit and 1.5 million tonnes per year operation was commissioned in 1997.
In terms of quality, high purity, colour, consistency and uniformity, Lake MacLeod gypsum has provided advantages to customers in the cement and wallboard industries.
