Our community programmes
To implement Rio Tinto's local communities policies, our businesses undertake many local programmes and initiatives.
These are usually aimed at securing benefits for communities. Occasionally, they may be designed to mitigate the negative effects of Group operations. The programmes arise from consultation with affected communities and they may include bi- and multi-sectoral partnerships.
We look for programmes that can make a difference in a sustainable way without creating dependency. Many of our programmes help to support local business growth, boost training and skills levels, or improve public health and education, helping to raise socio-economic standards in a lasting manner.
