Business effectiveness
To ensure Rio Tinto's local communities policies are contributing to the Group's business effectiveness, regular monitoring and review of our programmes is undertaken.
All Group businesses produce their own local social and environmental reports on an annual basis. These demonstrate performance and issues raised during the year, and we believe they are the best way to ensure transparency in our relationships with our communities.
For more on our operational performance, please visit the 2005 Sustainable development review.
At board level, our Committee on social and environmental accountability ensures that the Group maintains the standards required by its strategic commitment to sustainable development.
