Governance
We believe that our sound corporate governance and high ethical standards of conduct give us a competitive advantage in securing access to resources and skills. To us, good governance in areas such as environmental performance, positive community relations, human rights, and employee welfare are just as important as the technical and economic aspects of mining and processing.
In addition, we realise that any mining company that wishes to position itself as a "miner of choice" needs to be equipped to deal with complex stakeholder relationships.
We have built into our operating philosophy a strong focus on sustainable development and the basis of this philosophy is spelled out in The way we work. This statement of our business practice sets out our policies on such issues as human rights, transparency, political involvement and corruption, and we actively require our employees to comply with them through awareness training programmes.
Our aim is to ensure that our employees reflect in their daily work the high standards and values we require of them - values such as accountability, fairness, integrity and openness.
