Employees
Recruiting, developing and retaining talented and motivated employees delivers improved productivity and ultimately, improved business results. We are committed to developing effective working relationships with employees across the Group. Achieving a safe workplace - free of workplace injuries, incidents and illnesses - is of paramount importance. At Rio Tinto we believe a safe business is a profitable business.
Our approach
All managers at Rio Tinto are expected to be models of the highest standards of behaviour. Employees are expected to treat each other and external contacts with dignity, fairness and respect.
Harassment in the workplace is guarded against and neither abuse nor misuse of position or facilities for personal purposes is tolerated. The Speak-OUT programme provides employees with an independent and confidential means of reporting concerns and communicating ideas to senior managers.
We encourage collaboration within and across businesses, cultures and countries to deliver improved and consistent performance globally. For more information about our approach in the workplace, see our global code of business conduct, The way we work.
Our focus
We focus on creating a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible work environment as we recognise this is critical to our success. We deploy a range of techniques, tools, and training and development courses designed to empower our employees to work safely.
We use regular performance reviews, recognising potential and undertaking education, training and coaching as appropriate, and offering professional development opportunities within the Group to develop employees' skills and competencies. For more information, see employees.
