Organisational changes (as of 1 June, 2007)
Effective 1 June 2007, the following organisational changes will be made at Rio Tinto:
The Industrial Minerals product group and the Diamonds product group will be combined to form the Diamonds and Minerals product group, headed by Andrew Mackenzie.
This will better reflect the size of these businesses in the context of the broader Rio Tinto. The other four product groups - Aluminium, Copper, Energy and Iron Ore - and their chief executives remain unchanged.
There will be two new Group executives, Technology and Innovation (Grant Thorne) and Business Resources (Keith Johnson). Technology and Innovation replaces OTX and reflects the renewed emphasis on innovation in this area. Business Resources will comprise Business Services, Exploration and Communications & External Relations. These roles will be responsible for delivering cost effective best practice corporate functions, shared support and shared services across the Group.
