Rio Tinto supports Katrina relief efforts
Rio Tinto has pledged $350,000 to support the relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Rio Tinto companies and employees in America are contributing $100,000 to the American Red Cross. The contribution to the American Red Cross is to assist in the wider relief efforts to the people and communities in the Gulf Coast impacted by the effects of the hurricane.
Rio Tinto is also contributing $250,000 to the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Fund. "We hope this will make a difference to both an immediate recovery effort, and a long term rebuilding effort for the city and surrounds of New Orleans," stated Rio Tinto Executive Tom Albanese.
Besides the corporate support, many Rio Tinto employees have made individual contributions to the relief effort.
