Rio Tinto recognised for our profound contribution

Andrew Vickerman
Global head of Communications and External Relations
Andy Vickerman, Rio Tinto's global head of Communications and External Relations, has been recognised for his "profound" contribution to corporate social responsibility and sustainable development
At the UK's annual International Visual Communications Association (IVCA) awards ceremony in London in October 2007 he was one of three IVCA Clarion Award Champions for 2007. IVCA said in its citation: "A highly regarded development economist and academic, [Andy] has worked as an economic adviser to government and as a consultant for the World Bank and United Nations agencies. Central to his achievements has been his natural ability as a communicator which has made his vision for sustainable development both engaging and intellectually rigorous. He receives the IVCA Champion Award for his mission, his commitment and his outstanding use of communications, produced by some of the UK's leading companies, to make real his vision of a better society."
In IVCA's interactive media category, Rio Tinto's video supplier, Jacaranda, won the top prize for Shared Vision 17, "an inspiring multi access DVD which captures Rio Tinto's mission to communicate fully with employees and share its commitment to community and environmental concerns".
