ENVIRONMENT
Environmental performance

Minimising, mitigating and remediating the harmful effects of our operations on the environment requires us to develop, and report against, indicators which reflect the environmental inputs, outputs and impacts of our activities. Areas of reporting include:

  • Implementation of management systems including planning, implementation and operation, and checking and review.
  • Occurrence and resolution of environment incidents, including spills and fines for infringement of environmental regulations.
  • Greenhouse gas emissions resulting directly from our activities and indirectly through the use of our products.
  • Energy used at our operations.
  • Water we withdraw from the environment, use at our operations and return to the environment.
  • Air emissions associated with our activities.
  • Generation and management of mineral and non mineral waste.

We also report on the land used for our activities, referred to as our footprint, and the way we manage it.

S&E help
Mining, smelting and associated activities cannot occur without an impact on the environment. There are also issues relating to the safe use of metal and mineral products.
