• Understanding what wastes are generated and how they may be reduced;
• Characterising the environmental hazards and risks to ensure their safe handling, treatment and disposal;
• Ensuring that disposal is only carried out only in engineered and approved facilities;
• Using technologies, processes and disposal contractors approved by local regulators;
• Selecting waste disposal contractors that have met defined criteria in terms of their health, safety and environmental performance; and
• Implementing transport strategies to ensure appropriate handling on route to offsite recycling or disposal facilities.
