COMMUNITIES
Baseline studies and community surveys

Baseline studies and community surveys are a very important part of effective and meaningful community relations. Such studies provide information such as community perceptions, demographics, land tenure and other socio economic issues. This information provides the basis on which the Rio Tinto businesses and their affected communities can start to work together for mutual benefit.

Most businesses have completed baseline studies and community surveys since the Rio Tinto communities policy came into effect in 1997. Such studies are also a key part of preparing a five year community plan.
