Rio Tinto Coal Australia's (RTCA) Queensland based businesses have been working to establish a replicable process that enables operating personnel to address sustainable development issues in a systematic way. The project is seeking to translate some of the theory and high level aspirations associated with the concept of sustainable development into a more practically orientated process for businesses to use to tackle operational issues through incorporating SD principles into the existing business systems. A specific pilot initiative, focusing on water management issues, is being used as a way of getting a practical understanding of the issues.
