Partnerships are central to Rio Tintos communities policy. They have the potential to add value to Rio Tintos business objectives, and to help us build fresh relationships as we make a case for the industry to play a central role in the transition to sustainable development. Partnerships provide opportunites for Rio Tinto to engage in a two-way dialogue, to learn from other organisations, share outcomes and to contribute some of our skills to others. Cross-sectoral partnerships are becoming accepted as a new model for social development. Rio Tinto seeks long term partnerships that address issues of strategic importance to the Group and can contribute to policy formulation through an exchange of ideas and expertise with other sectors of society. These partnerships enable us to understand better the relationship between external expectations and our business activities, and to respond appropriately. Partnership programme aims are to enhance Group community, health, safety and environment performance, ensure that Rio Tinto is credited by influential audiences for doing so, and to improve our ability to contribute to a range of international public policy issues of importance to our activities and to participate in decision making processes. The programmes reflect issues of concern to external audiences and are designed to support local programmes undertaken by businesses. Priority issues for partnerships currently include biodiversity and water resource management. Partnerships content: |
