Hoax job opportunities with Rio Tinto

Recently Rio Tinto became aware of hoax newspaper advertisements for employment opportunities with Rio Tinto.

Rio Tinto is one of the world's leading mining and exploration companies and like a number of other companies is subject to organisations or individuals falsely representing them without Rio Tinto's knowledge or approval.

Recently Rio Tinto became aware of hoax newspaper advertisements for employment opportunities with Rio Tinto. Respondents to the advertisements were taken through a false recruitment process, purportedly for employment opportunities in Western Australia (which, upon enquiry, mentioned Rio Tinto mines), and were asked to make an up-front payment to cover airfares and other expenses.

These advertisements were not placed by Rio Tinto and the recruitment process was in no way endorsed by Rio Tinto.

Rio Tinto has no association with these organisations or individuals. Anything that those organisations or individuals may have advertised about employment with Rio Tinto was done without Rio Tinto's knowledge or approval.  Neither Rio Tinto nor any recruitment agency engaged by Rio Tinto would seek an up-front payment from a prospective employee to travel to a place of interview.

Rio Tinto strongly urges all prospective candidates to check carefully before responding to any advertisements of this nature.
