Rio Tinto Alcan (RTA) has been acknowledged as an employer of choice for women by Australia's Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA).
At the Yarwun alumina refinery in Gladstone, Queensland, Human Resources manager Anthony Heald said the citation recognises Rio Tinto Alcan's commitment to promoting employment and development opportunities for women.

"Recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce is important to the long term sustainability of our operations. Rio Tinto Alcan is committed to ensuring our workforce is representative of the people who live in our region," Anthony said.
"The EOWA citation is positive recognition we are heading in the right direction."
Yarwun superintendent, Technical Hydrate, Samantha Parry, said working for Rio Tinto Alcan has many benefits.
"People often ask whether it is hard being a female engineer in a typically male dominated industry, but to be honest I have never felt that way at Rio Tinto Alcan," Samantha said.
"Advancement is based on merit, the opportunities available are diverse and challenging and the work environment is friendly and flexible."
