Vacation work

Vacation work is a great way to explore your career aspirations, and our business units often have work programmes to help aspiring new employees with internships, coop terms or vacation work.

We provide temporary paid employment for students in selected disciplines while at university, including:

• geology and other geosciences
• environmental studies
• metallurgy
• most engineering disciplines
• information technology
• chemistry 
• and a range of associated sciences and disciplines

Vacancies may also exist for those seeking work in marketing, commerce, recruitment, human resources, accounting, business management, communications, community relations, external relations and law.

Opportunities exist in Canada, the US, South America, Africa, Europe and Australasia. The Africa/Europe division of Rio Tinto Exploration also run a summer placement scheme as a pre-cursor for recruitment.

Internships /co-ops

There are a limited number of international internships available for geology, mining and metallurgy students in their third year.
