The Pilbara has a rich history and a vibrant artistic heart. The land and its Traditional Owners hold generations of stories, ceremony and culture.
In 2017 we renewed our partnership with art groups in the Pilbara - Roebourne Art group and Yinjaa-Barni Art Centre. Both play a significant role in the Roebourne community by providing a space for local artists to share their artistic knowledge and skills, and provide a space to come together to connect.
Over the past six years we have contributed a combined $1 million to these art groups and have worked closely with them to exhibit at the Colours of our Country exhibition in Perth, alongside other Indigenous Pilbara art groups and independent artists. Our support will continue over the next three years with a $480,000 contribution, aiming to create economic development opportunities for the artists and support the ongoing sustainability of art groups and artists, providing an outlet for cultural expression.
Since 2006, the Colours of our Country exhibition has generated more than $2.39 million in sales for the artists and provided people in Perth with a snapshot of these stories and customs – 1,500 kilometres from the magnificent landscapes that influence so many of the works on show.
