Metal matrix composites: DURALCANTM and BORALCANTM
Produced at our Dubuc plant, DURALCANTM metal matrix composites are high technology, particulate reinforced aluminium alloys. Their strength makes them ideal for foundry use and heavy wear applications, such as brake rotors, drums and pads as well as tire studs in the automotive industry. Other uses include foam applications, pistons, cylinder liners, control arms, drive shaft, structural components for aerospace applications, and many more.
BORALCANTM metal matrix composites are composed of an aluminium alloy with nuclear grade B4C added for use as a neutron absorbing material. Solutions include rolled strip or extruded shapes for spent fuel dry storage baskets and rolled strip for spent fuel wet pool rack shielding. Today, we offer 4 different alloys (1100, 6351, 6351CO, and our newly developed 3004 alloy) with B4C volume loadings that can range from 1 per cent to 33 per cent.
Also produced at our Dubuc plant, Aluminum-Lithium alloys are used mainly in aerospace applications such as fuselage and offer weight reductions while providing excellent fracture toughness.
