Payments to suppliers
In 2005, Rio Tinto's demand for materials, facilities and services was equivalent to $8 billion, or 39 per cent of the Group's gross turnover. Although it is virtually impossible to track back the whole productive chain for every purchase made by Rio Tinto, we proxy this by looking at the invoices' addresses.
- More than 60 per cent of total purchases were supplied at the local and regional level of the operation. Only 10 per cent were imports from abroad.
