Difficult issues
In some countries we may have limited ability to influence the behaviour of governments or other third parties. Nonetheless, we strive to do everything in our ability to improve the situation, particularly in the vicinity of our operations. Depending on the circumstances, a number of options may be open to us, including privately encouraging other organisations to use their influence, and supporting initiatives to raise awareness of human rights. When we consider new projects in regions where allegations of abuses are rife, we undertake an analysis of the human rights situation.
